Nice to meet you!
Hi, I am Loren Jaffe. I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) for the last 8 years. I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. I started in the Dental field in high school as a Dental Lab Technician. I later worked in dental offices assisting hygienists, which ultimately catapulted me into applying to dental hygiene school.
My 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son are responsible for this new career path as an Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist. Around the age of 3 my daughter began having reoccurring health issues where I spent months taking her to various doctors to be told there was nothing wrong. Shortly thereafter my son began to show signs of sleep obstruction as well as food aversions like, choking on his food and sucking his thumb. It was very clear that both of my children needed some help, but I was not sure what to do next. I was continually told there was either nothing wrong or to wait a year and see if the issues "clear up".
After a lot of research I came to realize myofunctional therapy could provide the answers. I found an Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist (OMT) an hour away from our home town and after our initial conversation she told me I wasn’t alone. Both my kids, in fact, had dysfunction and she could help. After we met, I knew this was the next step in my career. I knew I wanted to help other parents find a SOLUTION. No parent should have to struggle like I did to find some answers.
